Eduardo Colunga está convencido: hay magia en Xcaret. Y él la vive todos los días en uno de los sitios más místicos entre los lugares turísticos de Cancún: el temazcal. Él es el “temazcalero” o “curandero” que desde hace 4 años se encarga de dirigir las sesiones de este ritual para los visitantes que se animan a darle a sus vacaciones una experiencia que en verdad es única, y que puede ser tan intensa y renovadora como cada quien la desee vivir. Sentarse a platicar con don Eduardo es como hojear un libro con muchos relatos. Se acomoda bajo la sombra de los árboles, justo enfrente de una efigie de Ixchel, diosa maya de la luna y la fertilidad. Nos explica que el temazcal de Xcaret está dedicado a ella por ser también la diosa de las mareas y la medicina. “En los tiempos prehispánicos, cuando Xcaret se llamaba Polé, venían los mayas desde pueblos muy lejanos para rendir culto a Ixchel en Cozumel. Hacían en Polé una pausa para bañarse en las aguas cristalinas de sus cenotes y entraban al temazcal. Muchos peregrinos venían porque pensaban que estas aguas eran curativas.
“Este lugar tiene magia”, repite don Eduardo, y aclara que todo es gracias a la fe y voluntad de cada persona. Y es que el temazcal, que para los pueblos prehispánicos era un ritual de renovación y purificación, permite liberarnos de aquellas cosas que cargamos durante mucho tiempo y que terminan siendo un lastre que nos impide crecer. Entrar a esa casita circular hecha de adobe es entrar en la Madre Tierra y entrar también en nosotros mismos; reconocer nuestros errores y nuestra gran capacidad para renacer.
“El día que dejas de creer dejas de crear”, les dice don Eduardo a los visitantes de Xcaret (lugares turísticos de Cancún)
Don Eduardo, que llegó muy joven a la Riviera Maya desde Guanajuato, su tierra natal, vive cada temazcal como una gestación de nuevas personas. Está muy orgulloso de ser curandero y preservar un ritual que nos recuerda nuestras raíces pero que nos hace mirar hacia un futuro más pleno. Él piensa que para ser curandero o temazcalero lo que se necesita es sensibilidad para captar rápidamente el sentir de cada persona y carácter para ser un guía. A punto de comenzar la sesión en una tarde nublada en la hermosa Riviera Maya, don Eduardo nos invita a “morir, renacer, liberar, soltar”. El calor de las piedras al rojo vivo aumenta el aroma de las hierbas listas para el temazcal de Xcaret: manzanilla, eucalipto, romero, ruda… Ya está servido el balché en pequeñas jícaras para quienes asistirán a esta cita con la Madre Tierra y con ellos mismos. Pensando en todo lo que significa el temazcal, ¿quién podrá negarse al llamado del caracol que está haciendo don Eduardo y su compañero Miguel desde el Pueblo Maya de Xcaret?
